The new format of gathering knowledge, which is rapidly gaining acceptance across the world is e-learning.

Information is shared over computers, so that users seated in any location can view course modules at any time.

Since the course is developed in an electronic form, it is much more interesting and engaging as compared to courses being taught through paper books in the traditional classroom.

Students or employees can interact with each other through forums, chat and discussions. Together, they can brainstorm and create new ideas, plus learn from each other.

The success of e-learning can be determined by seeing the level of connection established with the user, and by testing its sustained impact. In an organizational scenario, it can also be observed through the achievement of tangible business objectives. In other words, the content that is created should be able to fulfill both learning as well as organizational objectives.

As businesses embark cautiously on the path to growth, a major lesson learnt by most of them is that employees need to be kept engaged through various learning opportunities. Although the overall budgets on learning have increased, the need for finding cost-effective quality solutions has gone up.

Being able to outsource e-learning development can be considered as a big strategic advantage, against other competitors.

One of the innovative ways to promote electronic learning is through game-based learning. Educational games based on strategy are devised, for employees or students to compete against each other.

In the gaming environment, students or employees are required to think on their feet and make strategies in order to fulfill game objectives. The above skills help to foster innovative thinking, which is required to handle different work-based situations.

Another method similar to the above in application, is mobile learning, or m-learning. Users can communicate through mobile devices such as mobile phones, net books or tablet PCs. The content can be provided in the form of applications that can be installed on different mobile operating systems such as Android, Symbian, Blackberry and Windows 8. Users can access this data on-the-move.

Due to the huge demand for electronic learning, there are many e-learning companies in the market which provide these services. However, care must be taken to approach companies which have sufficient experience in this field, and are supported by praise-worthy testimonials from reputed clients.

A small division of the firm providing e-learning solutions can be created at the client's site, if the content for users is such that it keeps changing from time to time. At a certain fee, the services of an outsourcing firm can be utilized at the client site to develop solutions. An offshore development center can thus be developed to address e-learning needs of an organization.
