If you're interesting in becoming a teacher, you might think that you'll be limited to finding jobs within a public school, private school or a college.
However, teachers are often surprised to discover that there are non-traditional jobs available for those with an education degree. If you're not sure what you can do with a degree in education, here are a few different options.
Full Time Tutoring Within The United States
If you're not sure that a full time job in a traditional school is for you, consider looking into finding a full time tutoring job. This will allow you to use your education, but you'll get a great deal of flexibility in your career.
Some tutors find positions working with children who work in the entertainment industry, as movie and television studios are required to find child actors a full time tutor to make up for the fact that they're not in school. Other tutors work after school hours to help students who might need a little extra instruction in certain subjects, while others might help supplement a parent's homeschooling efforts.
Use A Placement Company To Find Teaching Jobs Overseas
Teaching jobs overseas are ideal ways to use your education and there are a few ways to find these positions. Many people simply move and hope to find teaching jobs overseas. This is possible, however, it can be a difficult way to find a job. Some countries force people to have a job lined up before they move to teach and require an entry visa before they can move overseas.
Instead, consider using a placement company to help you find teaching jobs overseas. These companies will help teachers find a job, but that's not all. They can help you determine whether an entry visa is required, as well as line up health insurance and a place to live. It's not always necessary to have a degree in education to teach overseas, but it certainly doesn't hurt.
If you do decide to teach abroad, realize that you will need to decide whether you want to teach children or adult business people, since there are different types of positions available when you're looking for teaching jobs overseas.
Be A Corporate Trainer
One last way to take advantage of an education degree is to become a corporate trainer. In this type of position, you'll work with companies to provide training to employees. If you find a job with a large company, this could be a dedicated position, however, it's more common to find a contract position.
Some people choose to become a freelance trainer, while others work for a company that provides training services on a contract basis. Corporate trainers need to be flexible since they cover a wide range of services and may require additional training.
A degree in education doesn't mean that you'll be limited to finding a job in a traditional school. If you're not sure what type of career is best, consider learning about all the options that are available with an education degree. You might be surprised at how versatile this degree can be.
